Character Information

*Character Name: Link

*Character Canon:  The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

*Age: Young (Around 17yrs old)

*Race:  Hylian

*Timeline/Pull Point:
By the end of the game. After Demise, the Herald of Death has been destroyed, and the Master Sword sealed his Evil power. When Link is back with Zelda and their friends in the Sealed Temple. However, he is unable to return the sword to its pedestal as in the game, so he gets to keep the Master Sword.

*History:  Here's his Zelda Wikia entry.

Throughout the course of the story, Link who was once a lazy person that needed his best friend, Zelda to remind him of all the stuff he had to do in the Knight Academy, becomes a diligent warrior. The student who was once considered too weak to become part of the Knights of Skyloft learns his way through battle. Every time during his quest he’s feeling like he is getting closer and closer to Zelda.

The constant battles with Ghirahim and his demons, the danger in which Zelda is, day after day and the trials of the Silent Realm, served to temple his body and mind, Because only then he was able to forge the Master Sword with the fire of the Goddesses and become strong enough to defeat the Evil Herald of Death, Demise.

*Personality:

Link bears the Spirit of the Hero, that’s why he’s got an unbreakable spirit. One of his main personality traits is his courage. He is often depicted as a humble yet brave and courageous boy who steps up to the task of saving the kingdom of Hyrule ; a task to which he seems destined after the course set on him by Demise. As such, he is often associated with the Triforce of Courage and the goddess Farore. He rarely shows signs of cowardice and is always willing to use his strength and valor to save and help those around him, be it in such simple tasks as finding lost objects to true heroic deeds like saving a complete village from the demons and monsters unleashed by evil.

Back in the days when he was but a student in the Knight Academy, Link’s calm and lazy demeanor often made him look unfit of the title of a Knight. He was too soft for such a title. In fact he was often bullied by Groose and Link rarely ever retaliated. He isn’t shy; fact is he didn’t consider Groose’s taunts to be harmful, since Link was always aware of his mistakes and them being the reason why the bullies of the Academy were over him.

Of course he’d often get angry at them for the constant harassment, but it’s not in his nature to be aggressive. He’d rather find a civilized way to sort out their differences. However, he does know when violence is needed. After all, who’d be foolish enough to try and reason with the Demon Lord and in the face of hostility?

Since Link is friendly, he’s also a very talkative boy. Often that’d be regarded as a bad attribute, though Link has learned that talking is a perfect way to learn about the world surrounding him, about the people and also an important aspect throughout his journey. Talking has often lead him to clues to places and supplies that otherwise would have been nearly impossible to reach.

It’s still unclear if his remarkable skill with different weapons is a hidden gift (Considering he wasn’t the best swordsman or the best Knight apprentice) or the aftermath to the constant dangers Link had to face on the course of his journey to save Zelda. Learning the use of a new weapon as fast as possible was of vital importance. Even Link often ponders on this, and upon finding himself with more questions than answers, he’s happy to thank the Goddesses for his newfound aptitude, seeing it as a gift bestowed upon him by the deities.

Saying Link wasn’t overwhelmed by his destiny as The Hero would be a lie. Link was stunned to find out what he thought were nightmares were in reality a premonition. His whole life turned upside down, and despite his initial shock he accepted his fate with courage. The fights that followed during his journey helped to temper his spirit. Each new wound, each victory, each time he came out of a dangerous temple forged his character. Finding motivation both in the memory of his beloved friend and the marvels his body could perform in the name of Goddess Hylia.

Usually Link doesn’t have a concise personality, as such the player is who decides how the character is throughout the story. However it’s commonly accepted that Link is an optimistic, strong-willed character and that he’s also very friendly, the very fact he’s always there to lend a hand if needed has gained him friends all across Hyrule, or, in this case, Skyloft and the world of the Surface, beneath the clouds. He’s also knows for being fond of sleeping, and his incarnation in Skyward Sword depicts him as a lazy teen, such defect is something he overcomes as he makes his quest and gains power.

*Powers/Abilities:

The Master Sword: The Sword of Evil’s Bane; originally known as the Goddess Sword.  Forged with the power of Goddess Hylia and later purified by the flame of the Goddesses Nayru, Farore and Din to become the Master Sword.  A magical weapon capable of breaking curses and deflect black magic. When Link holds the Master Sword aloft and lets it take a moment to charge with heavenly energy, the sword brims with said energy, Link can slash with the sword to release a crescent-shaped shockwave that follows the arc of the blade. He can also stab to create a focused beam.

Link is an impressive swordsman. Also, he’s a fast learner and can easily master several skills in little time. Be it sword fighting to other methods of combat. He’s also a very skilled archer, with a remarkable aim. In dire times, he’ll learn to use almost every weapon in his reach: slingshots, clawshot, boomerang, and shield. (In Skyward Sword) He is seen carrying some sort of mechanical remote controlled beetle, which means that he could learn to use other kind of high-tech gadgets if he had the chance.
Link possesses an excellent physical condition that allows him to perform notable stunts and conquer dangerous terrain; despite this he is often defenseless without a weapon or item.

He’s very talented with musical instruments, in this case a harp.

Unlike his following incarnations, this Link, the first Hero, doesn’t possess the Triforce of Courage within him.

I don’t know if Link (or the Master Sword) must be nerfed, since he’s not actually an aggressive character. Sure, he will stand for his friends and his mission/destiny, like a true Hero. However he won’t use violence if there’s other ways to solve a problem. That’s up to you. :3

*Inventory:

Accessories: Fire earrings that allow him to survive in hot temperatures and a Water Dragon Scale that allows him to swim faster and for longer periods of time.

Master Sword
Hylian Shield

Also, Link possesses something similar to the subspace pocket, known as the hammerspace. For this reason, he carries around a wide variety of items (I’ll include only those used more frequently throughout the game, I’m not sure if I should list the harp or the sailcloth, though):

Though Beetle (mechanical remote controlled gadget)
Sacred Bow
Claw Shots (hookshot)

*Starting Polarity:

I’d say Vector Prime, though he could also be a nice addition to Primian polarity. Could you please provide some advice?

Writing Samples

*First Person Sample:

[Link took the small handheld device he’s been granted upon his arrival, it’d be his first time using the Link –no pun intended-. He had lost his Tough Beetle and couldn’t locate it, so maybe others in the surrounding area would be able to help.]

Greetings, everyone…. Link here, [He said in a sheepish voice when the comm line opened with a short hiss of static.]  During a short expedition in the area, my Tough Beetle got lost— [Link made a short pause, now truly embarrassed; losing something important was such a beginner’s mistake.]

I’m sure those who’ve met me in person know what I’m talking about. For those of you who aren’t familiar with me, it’s a rather small, round and golden device in the shape of a winged bug, with long claws in its front. Remote control isn’t working, so I’d appreciate it if someone who’s happened to see it could give me a hint to where it is, or better yet, hand it back if possible. I’ll be very thankful and will kindly repay you for the favor.  [Link then closed the comm line, a sigh leaving him as he was still reluctant to believe in the spread of the communication device.]

*Third Person Sample:

Slowly, Link regained consciousness, feeling every muscle in his body stiff, every little move sent pain all over his muscles, it was the pain that had brought him back from his slumber. As he came to his senses, Link tried to listen to the world around him, before even daring to open his eyes… And there was silence around him, the only sound that of the wind.

Zelda…

He had to save Zelda from the claws of Ghirahim, last thing he could remember was the Demon Lord kidnapping his loved friend. With a loud gasp Link opened his eyes wide, hand instantly clutching at the pommel of the Master Sword, which perhaps by some unknown miracle, remained in his hand.
Link moved to sit as a groan of pain left his throat, he shook his head to clear his mind and looked up and around him; the sky pitch black and a dim blue-ish light sorrounded him, as if the atmosphere had a light of its own. No place he had seen in the Surface looked like this, it was almost like a more terrifying version of the Silent Realms, only this time he couldn’t sense the power of the goddesses nor see the beams of light coming from the Sacred Tears.

Link finally stood on his feet. There had to be a way out of this unholy place. As he made his way, the memories of the Imprisoned, the Demon Lord and Zelda in danger were more than enough to fuel his will to continue across this seemingly empty and unwelcoming landscape. There was no way he’d allow Evil to defeat him. He glanced at his left hand, were the Master Sword rested, the blade shinning as Fi, the sword’s spirit, acknowledged her master’s presence. It was unsetting at first, when Fi didn’t materialize away from the sword nor could hear her monotone voice. Whatever magic had brought him here had sealed his faithful companion deep within the blade yet it couldn’t weaken it, such was the power of the Sacred Flames.

None of your malevolent powers will defeat me, Ghirahim. Even if this is your Lord’s deed! I won’t give up.  I’ll find you and save Zelda… no, Hylia,- Link corrected himself- from you. As long as I live you won’t stand a chance.

The Goddesses each had tested his spirit; all of them granted Link their flame, recognizing him as the Hero. No Goddess had doubted his bravery and purity of soul. The Master Sword a testament of his success.  It was time for Link to test his physique and save Goddess Hylia. She trusted him, and Link wasn’t about to betray that trust, he’d die for her, he’d live for her to see another day by her side.

A lopsided smile crossed his lips, his quest wasn’t over yet.

Final Notes: English isn't my first language. So I apologize for the grammar mistakes.
